Danger of Debris

BYStaff
According to a new study released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, more than 200,000 crashes were caused by roadway debris from 2011 to 2014. This resulted in nearly 39,000 injuries and more than 500 deaths. What can drivers do to keep themselves and others safe?

Maintain your vehicle.
Worn or underinflated tires can suffer blowouts that leave tire treads on the roadway. Exhaust systems can corrode, causing mufflers and other parts
to break loose.

Secure your load.
When moving or towing, make sure all items are tied down. Cover the entire load with a sturdy tarp or netting.

Practice defensive driving. Avoid tailgating and continually scan the road ahead for debris.
