6 tips to make the most of your next road trip

BYChelsea Young
They say it’s about the journey, not the destination. To make your journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible, consider these six road trip tips.
Unplug. Certain Arizona roads, like these 27 scenic roads, are too beautiful for your family to miss. Instead of turning on a movie for young ones, play some fun car games, point out scenic landmarks, and enjoy the ride together.
Be prepared. Keep your peace of mind by getting a car inspection before your road trip. Also make sure you have blankets in your car, especially in the colder months, and an emergency kit.
Map it out. Know your route before you hit the road by mapping out gas stations and rest stops. Sometimes places to stop can be a long way apart, and you want to make sure you don’t end up in a pinch. Use the AAA TripTik® Travel Planner to get address-to-address driving directions, maps, rest stops, and information about your destination.
Pre-book hotels. Hotels in small towns often fill up quickly, especially if there is a special event, so be sure to pre-book your stay to ensure you have somewhere to kick up your feet after a long day of driving.
Bring back up. For times when enjoying the scenery isn’t cutting it, portable electronics can be a boredom-saver for passengers. But be sure to pack the appropriate charges and bring back-up batteries for electronics so you aren’t left in a lurch.
Take your time. There are so many kitschy, quirky places along Arizona’s roadways, yet often we rush to get to our final stop. Allow enough time to enjoy the scenery and cool sites along your way.
